roadtrip-day 9

wish it were sunday, 'cause that's my fun day. oh, wait, it WAS!

we woke up, showered and departed in time for sarah and scott's flight. there was NO MORE room in the car. NONE. I can't believe they only had to hold small things on their laps. seriously. we were happy to take them but felt a leeeeetle bad about the cramped quarters. although, they were about to board a plane so it was kind of like a warm-up for that, hmm?

after that we putzed around in OKC near the airport waiting for my cousin andy, his wife jenn and my aunt gayla to meet us for lunch. It was Charleston's trip #2. I wanted to try their Champagne Chicken Salad something or other, per jessica's recommendation, but alas there was a mix-up by the waiter. Oh well. And OF COURSE I had their baked potato soup.

We talked shop (andy ran for office in okc, the election was a week and a half after our visit) and about my granny and how my house was and all that fun stuff. It was nice to see him. I don't think he and I had had a "social" visit since.......since....yeah. Not even sure. Maybe when I was in college?

Next we went to Pop's in Arcadia. My other cousin and his wife Becki said we'd like it. They were RIGHT. Over 500 different types of bottled soda, and quite the selection of HFCS free drinks, too. We got some postcards, a koozie and a magnet along with our beverages, and we took some pictures too. In front of this gas-station-cum-restaurant-cum-tourist-attraction stands the world's largest bottle of soda. :) The one of us with the soda bottle and the pretty pretty sky? Quite possibly my very favorite picture from the roadtrip. (wedding portion excluded from this designation of course!)

We took historic route 66 for a bit before jumping on the turnpike to head back to Tulsa. When we returned to my granny's house matt CRASHED and I took a nap too, and then we went to visit Sydney C and see her and Thomas' home. And meet her four big doggies, too. They were sweethearts. And her house was pretty fantastic, especially her kitchen cabinets and red wall that she'd covered with tissue paper. It looked neato bandito. Syd and I have known each other for AGES--we went to girl scout camp together and then ended up in the same pledge class. We're in the same family (we're cousins) and we took some classes together and anyway--she is one of my favorites. She also ALWAYS makes the effort to see me when I come in town, and that's something I really appreciate. Syd is totally on my top ten list!

Next we had dinner with my family and we had--if you know my tulsa loves you know I had to fit this in--mazzio's pizza. We brought it home and hung out and ate. And then went to see the lovely Jackie. Who also always makes the effort and who makes my days brighter. Aw. We had yummy braums--mmmmm mint chocolate chip. on the way the sunset was rocking--true to oklahoma form--so of course there are pictures of that, too. This is also when Jackie gave me the book and the little floral air freshener. And pink panties with whales on them. They're kind of adorable!!!

And then...we hung out with the fam some more, collected the shelf from my mom and got our stuff together for the long trip home. In some ways this evening seemed to fly by, but it others it seemed like it was crawling 'cause we were trying to make the most of every minute. I almost had a breakdown while trying to find a hotel for tupelo (they all looked sketch or were tres spendy) but I found one that was reasonable-ish and my mom insisted (thank you!!!!) and the crisis was averted. That night I stayed up late late late packing things up, knowing we wanted to hit the road and that I'd get to sleep in the car--but OH was it nice to finally go to bed!

I heart Braum's and Oklahoma sunsets. Those are honestly the two "things" I miss most about home.
