"oh you shoplifter, why did you take her from me?"
~the stills
my night last night was a leetle crazy. I'm running on 5ish hours of sleep. as I rolled into work at 859 this morning I thought "oh, god. I got into bed seven hours ago."
it took me a while to fall asleep. :(
so, I left work and there was this RIDICULOUS storm a-brewin'. Like, torrential rain, flood-causing, gigantic raindrops kind of storm. When they hit my windshield when I was parked the drops seriously spread out in 3 inch diameter circles.
anyway, I went to my apartment and in the rain loaded my plants into my car. I spent a while taking them into the back room of my apartment so that they could get less flooded. my second trip it was no longer raining and there was a beautiful rainbow--a double, too! I LOVE rainbows (at girl scout camp my CIT counselor, angela (you know angela, right brooke?) actually gave me the nickname "rainbow." a little odd since that way my cat's name, but seriously, I think rainbows are great. I had to stop having them in things though because now they symbolize something else as well, well with six colors, but moving on) and I love that they always make me think of the number 42. It has to do with rainbow visibility/the zenith of the rainbow. anyway, if you want to know more nerdiness, check it out here.
and after three trips I am ALL out! Matt and I managed to get everything out of my apartment, and after the cleaning lady comes today I will collect my doormats, vacuum and a few other odds and ends, all of which will take me ten minutes to grab. It is a HUGE relief to be done with that. HUGE.
so, after trip #2 I went to the grocery store to buy a red onion, two limes and a few other things so that I could make this for dinner. it had been the plan all along but all the red onions matt found were gigantic and the nearest kroger had no limes. it is so, SO good. and easy to make. well, unless you're getting used to one of those damn flat top stoves. I'm getting used to mine, but presently I HATE it. with a passion. I can't seem to get it to heat and maintain--it just keeps getting hotter, even after like 10 minutes at the same level. :(
anyway, yummy and simple. try it!
but while I was at the grocery store I went to the self-checkout line and I stopped a shoplifter! seriously! I didn't realize that was what I was doing, exactly. The man in front of me (probably 50-55ish) had one of those prepackaged sliced cheese things in his back pocket. And I noted that the security guard was like 15 feet away (and within earshot) and said "excuse me, do you know you have cheese in your back pocket?" and he said "what?!?" so I repeated myself, and he felt his pocket like he didn't have anything in it, even though it was obviously showing, and then looked at me again, took it out and angrily said "now I don't!"
while I checked out one of the head cashiers who always knows not to give me bags, kevin, hung out because the guy was still bagging up his stuff. anyway, stopped a shoplifter. yay!
so, dinner. another trip. and I started making this--just the pasta and had matt cut up the chicken. I cut the basil last sunday and stuck it in a jar of water, and hadn't gotten to do anything with it yet, and then this morning when I went to add the basil I noticed this.
hydroponic basil!!! I removed some of the leaves and am going to add a little bit of fertilizer to the water until I can get the hydroponic stuff. this means I can have it indoors! I need to add a rooting medium, too. wonder if I can find my perlite...anyway, this was exciting to me!
aaaand, matt painted the last wall in the middle room. he is a CHAMP! here it is in all its glory! I couldn't get the whole room in without the wall looking totally white, but this is the color. it's called guacamole. we had one called basil originally, but didn't want to color match and this one is less yellow, so I think it worked out to our advantage. YAY!
back to work. AGAIN. :(
