"you don't have cash?!?"

today I had to go by the dry cleaner before work. I needed to drop off my cute green dress that I'd just had tailored. (and seriously, the tailoring cost more than the dress! granted the dress was $18, but still. gosh.) It looks like the one in the picture, except now it's not a size too big. :)

anyway, so I go to the dry cleaner to drop off my dress. I point out the little stain on the dress, and I find out it'll be done "probably wednesday after five." I have to ask the woman--are you SURE it'll be done on wednesday? because I need to take that dress to alabama on thursday morning. she reluctantly told me it would.

so, now it's time to pay. that'll be $4.44, please. I whip out my card, and the woman says "you don't have cash?!?" her tone is very similar to the one I'd use if, say, you left your infant in the car while you went shopping in target, and were certain it was okay because you'd cracked the windows.

I told her that no, I didn't, and handed her my card.

I mean, I get that they are a small business, and I know that they pay a fee when I use my card, but THEY CHOSE TO ACCEPT THAT FORM OF PAYMENT! For real! Plus, I put like 90% of my purchases on my card anyway--my grandparents talked me into that a long time ago, since a) it's more complicated to get refunds when you pay with a check, b) carrying a lot of cash isn't always wise and most importantly, c) if there's a problem, credit card companies will go to bat for you, but your bank/debit people won't.

regardless of my logic, though, they say they take cards. I can't believe this woman talked to me like that. Maybe it's just 'cause it's a monday, but still. not cool. not cool at all.
