julie andrews, where are you when I need you?

Yesterday evening Sterling and I were discussing the difference between confidence and courage.

I, for instance, lack confidence, but I’ve got courage—and sometimes in spades. But maybe I should work on my confidence (like I sooo didn’t already know this). And I went to bed thinking “besides which, you see, I have confidence in ME!”

Which 1) made me want to listen to the song and 2) made me want to hear about the lonely goatherd, being sixteen going on seventeen, maria being a problem and my favorites things, like whiskers on kittens!

But, alas, my cd seems to have a taken a little stroll. I found “O, Brother Where Art Thou” and “The Only Broadway Cd You’ll Ever Need,” “The Point” and “Grease” and “The Wizard of Oz,” but no “The Sound of Music.” So I’m settling for singing in my head. :)

What will this day be like? I wonder.
What will my future be? I wonder.
It could be so exciting to be out in the world, to be free
My heart should be wildly rejoicing
Oh, what's the matter with me?

I've always longed for adventure
To do the things I've never dared
And here I'm facing adventure
Then why am I so scared

A captain with seven children
What's so fearsome about that?

Oh, I must stop these doubts, all these worries
If I don't I just know I'll turn back
I must dream of the things I am seeking
I am seeking the courage I lack

The courage to serve them with reliance
Face my mistakes without defiance
Show them I'm worthy
And while I show them
I'll show me

So, let them bring on all their problems
I'll do better than my best
I have confidence they'll put me to the test
But I'll make them see I have confidence in me

Somehow I will impress them
I will be firm but kind
And all those children (Heaven bless them!)
They will look up to me

And mind me with each step I am more certain
Everything will turn out fine
I have confidence the world can all be mine
They'll have to agree I have confidence in me

I have confidence in sunshine
I have confidence in rain
I have confidence that spring will come again
Besides which you see I have confidence in me

Strength doesn't lie in numbers
Strength doesn't lie in wealth
Strength lies in nights of peaceful slumbers
When you wake up -- Wake Up! It's healthy!

It tells me all I trust I lead my heart to
All I trust becomes my own
I have confidence in confidence alone
(Oh help!)

I have confidence in confidence alone
Besides which you see I have confidence in me!

Also, I looked at the competition in the photo contest today. In nature (where the Bradford pear pic is entered) the competition is steep. There’s a kick-ass one of a peacock. Otto’s people pic has a good chance, and I think my “misc” ones do too—the shell on the wood and the ferris wheel. In architecture I think my New Orleans building one could do well, but the Tulsa skyline isn’t original enough. And in landscape—well, there’s a lot of good ones, but a lot of unoriginal ideas too. My shell could have a shot there too—there’s an awful lot of sunsets.

Ooh, and? Don't you hate when you wake up and it feels like you haven't been sleeping? That happened to me last night. I bought the sleeptime extra tea, and I think my body doesn't like the whatever-is-in-it. Valerian root maybe? Anyhoo.

Okay, time to finish up work stuff and go make tooth #13 a princess—meaning she gets a crown. Yuck-o.

Oh, and PS—I updated my I’d-like-to-sell-my-photos-blog. More pictures, lower prices. :)

:) carrie es laeta! glad you're enjoying it!

most of the pics on there are from my canon powershot A75. the only ones that aren't are the ferris wheel (canon powershot A70) and the pink daisy (canon powershot A620).

my *new* camera is the A620, and it's SLICK.

I went to your photo page... and promptly stoole your "shell on wood" b-n-w piece for my computer desktop.

That's my favorite picture of the bunch.

Are you seriously trying to sell them? If so, how would someone go bout perhaps purchasing one?
