also, I sound like my mother.
on monday afternoon I actually did something like this--an orange peel blessing--but I think I did it wrong. or differently. I don't think there is a wrong. I think everything is about intent. I do not believe that, like, good spirits are going to occupy my house all of the sudden or anything. that's up to me. I've just got to get the bad stuff out and prepare the space to be mine instead of, well, "used." It's kind of like how when I was younger I'd go on a retreat to cleanse the soul. This is to cleanse my living space.
I actually just peeled the oranges, set them in their peels and left them overnight. I didn't open the windows, though.
and for my conservative Christian friends out there, please know that this isn't some weird pagan or satanic witchcraft devil worship (not that any of those things necessarily go hand in hand)--if it makes you feel better think of it like a different type of prayer. because that's kind of what it is.
also, I did this and then myrick came into my home again, so I feel like I need to do it again. That probably sounds strange, I know.
so this is how you do the orange peel blessing. I think I'm going to do this tonight. I found it here but I'm going to modify it a little.
A good way to remove old or unpleasant energy from your house is to use an orange peel cure. The aroma of fresh oranges is very yang, and effective at removing negativity.
Buy new oranges specially for this cure, rather than using any you already have in the house. Make sure they are really fresh by scratching the peel with your fingernail; the aroma should be very strong and sharp.
- Open all the windows slightly. Peel three fresh oranges, and tear each peel into nine pieces (for a total of 27 pieces), and place the pieces in a large bowl. Add about a cup of fresh (preferably filtered) water.
- Standing in the center of each room, dip your fingers in the orange-scented water and gently flick some of it in all directions. At the same time, visualize negative chi being dispersed from the space, and think positive thoughts.
- Then, take a piece of orange peel and break off little bits of it, scattering them all around the perimeter of each room.
- Leave the orange peel for 24 hours. The orange peels will absorb negative chi, which you can then easily sweep or vacuum up and throw away.
If you have quite a bit of orange peel and water left in the bowl after step 3, do not discard it. Instead, place the bowl in the center of the house for 24 hours, until you pick up and discard the scattered orange peels.

INTENTION—As you prepare and use this cure, stay focused on your intention to remove negative energy from your home.
AFFIRMATION—When you are done, make a verbal affirmation to support your vision, such as: “All negative chi is now effectively removed from this space and can no longer affect me or my family.”
VISUALIZATION—As you flick the water around and scatter pieces of orange peel, visualize all negative energy being absorbed by peels. vacuum or sweep up them next day sweeping discarding energy.
I've got to do something, there is so much tension surrounding this house right now!
I also found one with candles that asked God for all sorts of good things, a generic blessing for a home that made me think of "may the road rise up to meet you..." and some things that were downright creepy.
anyway.
hopefully this is all coming to an end and I can just enjoy my house with the pretty paint colors and my fabulous boyfriend. :)

Wow this guy seems like a complete prick. I'm sure you'll feel much better once all the locks are changed and he can't get in.
As for burning sage, I can totally vouch for it's cleansing properties. Lately I've been trying to clean up my life, and I've been thinking about burning some.

I could write a big long rambling comment about how conservative christianity originally was created directly from paganism, but I won't. Good for you!
