when is a door not a door?

it pains me greatly not to answer that question correctly (puhleeze tell me you know the joke), but apparently it's when you aren't allowed to shut it.  it's a long, ridiculous, office-space worthy story that boils down to this: whenever possible--and I mean absolutely whenever--I am not to shut the door to the office space that I share with three other people.  the room that we share has been divided into four cubes, and the airflow has been modified because we essentially added baffles that restrict the airflow.  so when we shut the door the temperature rises a few degrees (like 5, maybe).  and there is concern that the computers will overheat.

 

now, I'm not a computer-savvy person.  I know a little (rusty) C++ and I know how to use the run prompt, but other than that I kind of shy away from anything that doesn't have a help menu to go with it.  I'm certainly no expert.  But in a temperature-controlled building, what's the likelihood of overheating a computer?  I goodsearched it, and it seems that computers can get really REALLY hot before they freak out.  So having a computer in a room that's--let's exaggerate--85F just doesn't seem like it would ruin in.  Would it? Am I just unaware of the consequences? Did goodsearch fail me?

 

and, to boot (pun totally not intended!) I now look like a complainer because I 1) asked if they were making the door automatically shut like they said they were going to and 2) behaved like a codfish when told not to shut the door anymore.  I agreed to make sure that the door was open overnight (since I'm often the last to leave in my group of four) but I just kind of gave a look of disbelief when I was told that I essentially needed a signed permission slip in triplicate to shut the door.  I sit right across from the shop (which has a loud, loud lathe) and it's not like I spend lots of time in my office anyway.  and we spent like twenty minutes discussing this!  yeesh!
